Gabriela Ruse Press Conference – July 13, 2026

Gabriela Ruse spoke at the UniCredit Iași Open press conference about returning to Iași, the support of the Romanian fans, and the challenge of transitioning from grass to clay.

“It's a long road to winning the trophy, and I don't like thinking that far ahead. I just want the fans to enjoy our tennis.”

The Romanian player also reflected on what it means to compete in front of her home crowd:

“The support from the fans helps me, but at the same time it brings a lot of pressure because you want to play your best tennis. Sometimes things just don't come together, or you simply don't feel your best.”

“There are many things that need to fall into place. I don't want to disappoint them, but at the same time I don't want to put too much pressure on myself.”

Returning to Iași after competing here in 2024, Ruse praised the tournament's development:

“I was here in 2024. Things have changed a little since then, and everything looks even better. The tournament keeps improving every year. I hope to achieve a better result this year than I did in 2024.”

Asked about the draw and her potential opponents, Ruse said she prefers to focus on one match at a time:

“Honestly, I don't even know what the draw looks like yet. I haven't had the chance to look at it. Every match is tough, all the players are extremely good, and every day is different.”

“On top of that, switching from grass to clay is not easy at all. I need a little time to adjust.”

Looking ahead to her opening match, Gabriela Ruse expects a demanding challenge:

“I expect my first match to be a difficult one because the conditions are completely different from what I experienced on grass. I hope to adapt as quickly as possible and win as many matches as I can.”
