Miriam Bulgaru, Anca Todoni, Gabriela Ruse and Jaqueline Cristian play on Tuesday for a place in the quarters at the UniCredit Iasi Open. Anca Todoni and Irina Bara can reach the semifinals in doubles
The WTA 250 UniCredit Iași Open tournament, a competition with total prizes worth 232,244 euros and 250 WTA points, has reached the round of 16.
On Tuesday, July 23, the eight matches from the round of 16 on the singles table, as well as five doubles matches, four from the round of 16 and one from the quarters, are scheduled at the Ciric Sports Base.
Five players from Romania on the board
There will also be five players from Romania on the poster of the day. Miriam Bulgaru, Anca Todoni, Elena Gabriela Ruse and Jaqueline Cristian will perform in the round of 16 in singles, the last two in a direct match, Anca Todoni will also play in doubles, alongside Irina Bara, for a place in the semifinals.
The day session will start at 11.00 on all three courts.
In the first match on "Central", from 11.00, Miriam Bulgaru, 25 years old, 206th WTA place, will meet Selena Janicijevic (France, 21 years old, 189th WTA), a player coming from the qualifications.
Miriam produced the big surprise in the 1st round, defeating the 2nd favorite Tatjana Maria from Germany, while Janicijevic has already won three matches in Iasi, with Irene Burillo Escorihuela (Spain), Julia Avdeeva - in the qualifiers and Gergana Topalova (Bulgaria) – in the 1st round.
In the second match on the Central Court, Anca Todoni, 19 years old, 118th WTA, will play for a place in the quarters with Olga Danilovic, from Serbia, 23 years old, world number 150.
Todoni had an easy match in the first round, with her opponent Aliona Falei trailing 0-5 in the first set, while Danilovic eliminated 4th seed Anna Blinkova
Romanian duel in the round of 16
Not before 15:00, the main favorite, Mirra Andreeva, will enter the field for the duel with Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and after this match the most anticipated match of the day is scheduled, between Elena Gabriela Ruse and Jaqueline Cristian (favorite 3), not before 17.00.
Gabi Ruse, 26, 149 WTA, went past Anastasia Tykhonova in the first round, while Jaqueline, 26, world number 66, defeated Italy's Nuria Brancaccio.
It should be noted that Anca Todoni will play, on Tuesday, also in doubles, alongside Irina Bara, in the last match on Court 5. The two Romanians will try to make it to the semifinals of the doubles event, facing the couple Maia Lumsden (Great Britain ) / Anna Siskova (Czech Republic).
