The Bolivian Hugo Dellien, the new champion of the Concord Iasi Open tournament
Bolivian tennis player Hugo Dellien, 171st ATP place, sixth favorite, is the new champion of the ATP Challenger 100 Concord Iasi Open tournament. The 31-year-old South American defeated the 25-year-old Spaniard Javier Barranco Cosano, world number 254, 6-1, 6-1 in the final played on Sunday evening at the Ciric Sports Base.
Dellien authoritatively dominated the final and won in an extremely clear manner, in just 65 minutes. For Dellien, the victory in Iași is the 10th of his career in a Challenger tournament, while for the Spaniard Cosano the Concord Iași Open final represents the best performance of his career.
Hugo Dellien will receive 100 ATP points for the success achieved in Iasi and 16,550 euros, while the finalist Cosano remains with 50 ATP points and a check worth 9,705 euros.
With the points from Iasi, Cosano climbed to the 229th place in the world ranking, while the Bolivian Dellien will enter the Top 140.
Bolivian Hugo Dellien is the second South American to win the Concord Iasi Open, after Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves, in 2022. The other three winners of the Iasi tournament are Spain's Carlos Taberner (2020), Czech Zdenek Kolar (2021), and France's Hugo Gaston (2023).
The doubles event of the Iasi tournament was won by the Romanian pair Cezar Crețu / Bogdan Pavel. The two athletes from the Victor Hanescu Academy defeated on Saturday, in the doubles final, the favorite Polish couple 4 Karol Drzewiecki / Piotr Matuszewski, score 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.
It is worth noting that Hugo's younger brother Murkel Dellien, 26, won the ATP Challenger 75 tournament in Brasov last week after defeating Kazakhstan's Dmitry Popko in the final.
