Vlad Ciuburciu, Vascar: From passion to performance, tie break interview

1. How was Vascar founded? What was the inspiration to start the entrepreneurial journey and how has that initial inspiration developed over time?

Vlad Ciuburciu: Vascar's journey begins in 1984, in Vaslui. After the revolution, the Vaslui Meat Industry transformed into Vascar, a joint-stock company with 100% Romanian capital, and quickly established itself on the market in the region of Moldova as one of the most important producers of meat and canned goods.

Today, Vascar processes and markets a full range of sausages, semi-prepared meat, fresh meat, pâtés and canned food under the Vascar and Moldova in Bucate brands. The company's preparations are based on authentic reinterpreted recipes and a specific Romanian taste, obtained from quality ingredients and natural spices.

Vascar products are distributed through the 19 own stores in the Moldova region, the large hypermarket networks throughout the country, traditional partner stores and online, on sezamo.ro and freshul.ro. At the same time, Vascar produces "own brand" products for some of the biggest hypermarkets: Lidl, Kaufland, Carrefour, Mega Image, Auchan and Penny.

2. Mission and vision Vascar?

Vlad Ciuburciu: Over time we have adapted to the challenges of the market, but without deviating from the path we have chosen. Our concern is to always improve the quality of the products we offer, through innovation and constant attention to detail. We are glad that we have managed to constantly expand the portfolio of Moldova in Cuisine with a wide range of healthy and tasty products, which will satisfy the tastes of even the most demanding consumers. Many of these are brought together under the umbrella of Choose Natural, No Es.
The Alege Natural, E-free range from Moldova in Kitchens includes products made from 100% natural ingredients, E-free, additive-free, preservative-free. That means we removed the E's completely, not just removed some and added others.
Moldova in Bucate has become in just a few years a national brand known and appreciated by more and more Romanians, regardless of the region they come from. And the public recognition we have enjoyed recently is further proof that we are on the right track.

3. What steps are you taking to stay ahead of the competition and stay innovative in your approach?

Vlad Ciuburciu: Innovation is part of our brand philosophy. We have always sought to create different products, typologies that belong only to us and with which we can be identified in the market. We are the first to launch a complete range of E-free products, the Alege Natural range, from Moldova in Bucate.
Another first is the launch of the range of browned products. The procedure for preparing browned products allows the nutritional qualities of the ingredients to be preserved and, in addition, ensures a delicious, distinct taste. Shortly after the conception of the first browned products, we developed the recipe without Es and now we can say that we have a product line for refined tastes that is truly unique. We wanted to be the first to take on this territory, even if it is a niche at the moment. Many of the consumers of browned products are new customers for Moldova in Bucate, and this makes us happy.

4. What do the Iași Open tournaments mean for Vascar and for Iași?

Vlad Ciuburciu: It means a new opportunity to support the local community. Just as we put soul into our work as entrepreneurs, into every quality product that reaches our customers' tables, we also believe it is our duty to support the community without which we would not have been able to achieve the performance we enjoy today. That's why we get involved in projects we believe in from sports, education, the environment or the social field.

5. How is Vascar active within the Iasi Open to improve the fan experience and create a lasting impression for participants?

Vlad Ciuburciu: We set up a space for relaxation in the Fan Zone, with down armchairs and artificial grass. We also have a competition running throughout the tournament. Those who follow the Vascar Meat Manufactory Instagram page and post a picture of them at the tournament, with the #VascarforIasiOpen campaign hashtag, can win one of the 5 baskets of premium Moldovan Cuisine products that we offer. We will announce the winners at the end of the tournament on July 23rd.
